  We dealt with a claim on behalf of the estate of an elderly resident of Osbourne Court Care Home in Baldock, Hertfordshire.
• Tendon damage leads to extensive surgery and long term pain
  A woman in her 60s accidentally cut herself preparing food at home. She went to her local hospital, Ellesmere Port Hospital, where she was seen in the dressings clinic and told by the nurse that the injury would heal itself.
• Damages agreed against Frimley Park Hospital for negligence resulting in pressure sores
  We agreed settlement of a claim against Frimley Park Hospital for negligent care that led our client to develop numerous pressure sores during a series of admissions over several years.
• Settlement for pressure sores caused by negligent nursing care
  Our client had long-standing hip degeneration and eventually was told she needed a total hip replacement. Following the surgery it became apparent the wound was infected and investigations revealed she had acquired an MRSA infection whilst in hospital at the site of the surgery in her hip.
• Settlement for bereaved family following failure to administer anticoagulant medication
  We settled a claim against Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust on behalf of the estate of an elderly lady who suffered a stroke after her anticoagulant treatment was not recommenced following surgery.
• Settlement of claim for elderly patient injured after GP prescription error
  We have recently settled a claim against a GP surgery after our elderly client was prescribed the wrong medication in terms of type and dose, and suffered a fall and associated injury as a result of side effects from the medication given.
• Fatal effect of failing to recognise acute myocardial infarction
  In this case, we successfully pursued a claim for the widower of a lady whose GP failed to recognise the signs and symptoms that should have led him to diagnose unstable angina or acute myocardial infarction (MI).
• Settlement for death following avoidable hospital fall
  This case involved a claim against The Royal Surrey County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust for a client whose husband died following a fall in hospital.
• Settlement for delayed diagnosis of subdural haematoma in elderly patient after a hospital fall
  We have successfully settled a clinical negligence claim for an elderly patient’s family against an NHS trust for a failure to perform a CT scan after the patient, who was on blood-thinning medication, suffered a fall during his admission.
• Compensation for family of elderly woman who died after falling in a care home
  We have settled a claim for a client whose mother died following a fall in a Care UK home in Surrey. The elderly woman was suffering from dementia and took warfarin for a heart condition.
• Claim settled for elderly lady who fell while in care
  We have recently settled a claim on behalf of the estate of an elderly lady who fell while in care, breaking her hip and suffering a substantial overall physical and cognitive decline as a result.
• Claim against South London Healthcare NHS Trust for death following a hospital fall
  We recently settled a claim arising out of the death of an elderly lady as a result of a head injury sustained due to an avoidable hospital fall.
• Brain injury caused by ambulance crew
  We were approached by the family of Mr Thomas who died aged 81 in July 2009. He was attended at home in Esher, Surrey, by an ambulance crew to take him to hospital. Whilst being transferred to the ambulance, Mr Thomas was physically dropped and struck his head on a step.
• Failure to resuscitate and to operate properly
  In this case, an elderly patient in hospital with a known bowel obstruction collapsed.
• Settlement for negligently performed right primary total knee replacement
  We have recently settled a claim, for a significant sum, on behalf of a lady who suffered injury during surgery for a right primary total knee replacement.
• Development and deterioration of pressure sores in elderly patient
  Our clinical negligence team was instructed by the family of an elderly lady who died in August 2019. Prior to her death she was admitted to hospital, during which time a significant pressure sore developed and deteriorated.
• £25k damages recovered for avoidable pressure sores
  We have recovered £25,000 from London Northwest Healthcare NHS Trust for the avoidable pain and suffering of our client’s late mother, Mrs B, after she developed pressure sores while under the care of the district nurses.
• Claim settled against Yeovil District Hospital for mismanagement of diabetes leading to death
  We settled a claim against Yeovil District Hospital for the mismanagement of diabetes which led to the death of an elderly lady. Her family instructed us because they were concerned that her diabetes had been poorly managed.
